Brockenhurst Local Attractions and Things To Do
St Nicholas' Church
This ancient church sits alone on a mound and can trace its history back to the days of the Domesday Book, in which it is noted. Later enhancements have left us with a fascinating mixture of Georgian, Victorian and Norman elements. The South doorway in the nave is one of the fine Norman pieces which remain while the 18th tower is a good example of Georgian brickwork.
The huge great yew tree which dominates part of the churchyard has been calculated as being at least 1000 years old thanks to modern carbon dating methods.
There is an annual service held, on the Sunday will falls nearest to Anzac Day, for the 93 New Zealand Soldiers who died in the First World War and are buried in the graveyard here.
